I have come to realise that one of the reasons why many are unhappy is because they waste their time thinking and listing all the things they don’t have, forgetting that the things they have today were things they desired desperately yesterday.

Let’s do a quick exercise: Take a pen and a piece of paper. Make a quick list of all you wanted two years ago. Look carefully and tick the ones that you have been able to get and the ones that you are yet to get. I am very sure that you have gotten more than eighty percent of what you desired then. Oprah Winfrey said, “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough”.

John Mason said, ‘’Do you count your blessings or do you think your blessings do not count’’. Which of these categories do you belong to? Those that have chosen to count their blessings always get more blessings in return because of the appreciative spirit they possess. He who thinks his blessing does not count would definitely not be blessed tomorrow and even when the blessing comes, he does not recognise them. Make it a conscious effort to be thankful of what you have, while you work towards getting what you don’t have without regret.

Everything you desire today would come in Gods time. Learn to appreciate and utilize what you have today. The job you have today is not your dream job, and each time you are at work you are not productive because you are not comfortable with the job. If you had a better offer, I am sure you would not have taken this job, and if you were receiving a better pay in a more convenient organization, you would not have left the place for this job. Thank God for this job of yours because there are so many people that are jobless.

When you appreciate what you have today and you give your best, God would open the doors to bigger and better offers. If you insist on complaining, God would not open the door of promotion because if he does, sooner or later you would not appreciate it. God does not listen to the prayers of an ungrateful heart.

“When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.” – Willie Nelson

Wallace D. Wattles said, ‘’It is necessary, then, to cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude”. Resolve today to count your blessings and I am sure you would be so surprised at how rich you are.

Keep winning.
